White House Seeks Help from Top Court After Failed Attempt to Block Food Stamp Payment Order
Last Friday, shortly after a US appeals court ruled that the administration must pay for food stamp payments, the administration turned to the US top court in a further attempt to block the directive.
A short time later, the highest court issued an emergency order temporarily blocking complete food stamp benefits, which close to 42 million people count on to put food on the table.
“Government lawyers persist in fighting, day and night, to protect and further the administration's policies,” the attorney general declared on digital channels just after 9:30pm in Washington.
Administration officials had requested the US appeals court to stop a judge's order that it issue November’s entire food stamp payments in the middle of a US federal government shutdown, and faced refusal hours later.
America's Top Court Issues Temporary Injunction Stopping Full Nutrition Assistance Payments
The high court’s decision followed the government requested a national appeals court this past Friday to block a judicial directive mandating they provide this month's full monthly nutritional assistance amid a government funding lapse.
Following that petition to halt got rejected, the administration sought help from the nation's top court in a further effort to block the directive to fully fund nutrition assistance disbursements.
