The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
