The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay
The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating future games, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.
"It's a unique experience where a girl harboring several human souls within her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.
Stepping Into a Shattered Mind
In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four distinct souls, all possessing unique fears and drives. These souls can seize control spontaneously, releasing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.
Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a eerie hospital, while other scenes show the main character navigating a abandoned chapel.
A World of Individual Horror
"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that appear minor to other people can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."
The core mechanic involves managing whichever soul surfaces at a particular moment. However, these identities will change against your will during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's fears become amplified and assault the girl in succession. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.
Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice
At first glance, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms where their heads should be. Flowers are a recurring element, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.
Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the personas claims that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is real."
After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.
"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one standing could be a fraud. In any case, your choices are irreversible."
UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
