Teacher Killed and 25 Girls Abducted in Firefight at Nigerian School
Weapon-carrying attackers have fatally shot an educator and abducted at least 25 students in an attack on a female high school in the northwestern part of Nigeria, authorities have confirmed.
The armed faction breached the comprehensive secondary school for girls in Kebbi State's Maga area at approximately 04:00 local time on the beginning of the work week, officials stated.
The armed individuals "exchanged fire with security forces on duty in a gun duel" before climbing over the boundary wall and seizing the students from their dormitory, authorities disclosed.
A school employee was fatally shot while defending the students. A second sustained gunshot wounds and is now being treated medically.
Eyewitnesses described a sizeable number of assailants, identified in the area as outlaw groups, who came shooting randomly to cause panic.
Community members informed journalists that the gunmen subsequently marched a contingent of young women into nearby bushland.
