Some groups on the opposing sides who offer only grievance: Ministers are moving forward with the job of economic renewal.

At the budget last week, the correct decisions were taken for Britain, lowering power bills with a £150 reduction in charges, defending public healthcare and addressing the issue of youth deprivation by removing the two-child limit. We also ensured that the revenue we raised through taxes was done fairly, with everyone contributing but those with the greatest capacity contributing their fair share.

As a result of the choices we made, the budget fostered greater economic stability, driving down inflation and state borrowing costs. This is crucial for defending our public services, when a tenth of all expenditures by government goes on borrowing costs.

Building on Economic Foundations

The budget builds on the action we have already taken to enhance economic performance: providing £120bn in extra capital investment in such things as roads, rail and energy; implementing major regulatory changes in a generation to support developers, not obstructionists; promoting the development of Heathrow and Gatwick; and concluding commercial agreements with the EU, India and the US.

In combination, these have allowed us to outperform our expansion estimates.

Revitalizing Our Country

As I set out at the party conference, the government’s purpose is nothing less than the renewal of our commercial landscape, our neighborhoods and our nation. By doing that, we will stop degradation and restore faith in our country.

We will take on those on the both sides who only offer grievance and whose approach would lead to continued weakening. Allow me to state unequivocally, increasing public debt or returning us to austerity – that is the strategy of degradation and I cannot endorse it.

An Extensive Expansion Agenda

In a speech on Monday, I will frame the economic measures within the broader economic renewal on which the government will be assessed following completion of this parliament.

To accomplish the countrywide revitalization we seek, we must do more to stimulate expansion, to combat unemployment among young people and to seek enhanced global partnership with our trading partners.

Regulatory Reform Initiative

Our development strategy will include a renewed focus on eliminating needless bureaucracy. Frequently it was those on the left who have favored regulation, but there is nothing advanced in regulations which merely act to raise the cost of living for the poorest, to impede commercial development unnecessarily, or stop a progressive administration achieving its aims.

Hence the rationale I am asking the business secretary to address the category of unnecessary embellishment and needless paperwork that add to costs and impede our industrial strategy.

Benefits System Overhaul

Commercial rejuvenation additionally necessitates that we must continue to overhaul social security. We inherited a failing system that caused youngsters to lack basic nutrition and which dismissed adolescents as incapable of employment.

We cannot tolerate either part of that unsuccessful conservative approach. Hence the reason we will do more to support adolescents in reaching their abilities.

Because if you are ignored in your early career, if you are not given the support you need to address psychological challenges, or if you are merely dismissed because you are neurodivergent or disabled, then it can confine you to a pattern of worklessness and dependency for decades.

This imposes financial burdens, is bad for our productivity, but considerably more crucially, it takes away opportunity and disregards ability. Any progressive administration worthy of the name should not overlook it.

Hence the explanation we have appointed an ex-health minister to make actionable suggestions to help young people with health conditions access work, training or education – making certain they get help to prosper rather than marginalized.

Global Commerce Improvement

Finally, we have to do more to help our businesses trade internationally. No believable commercial perspective for Britain that does not establish us as a accessible, commercial nation.

We need to acknowledge the reality that the botched Brexit deal considerably harmed our commerce. It isn't necessary to have a PhD in economics to know that constructing needless commercial obstacles with your primary business associate will hinder development and boost prices.

Therefore a component of our economic renewal will be continuing to move towards a enhanced business association with the EU. When we can access more affordable sustenance, improve development and produce work opportunities by having a stronger connection with Europe, we should.

A Meaningful Approach for Major Issues

A financial plan founded on equitable decisions for Britain must be backed up with a determination to achieve the commercial rejuvenation that the country needs.

Via executing a major, confident protracted program, not a set of short-term remedies, we will renew Britain. We need to transform once more a meaningful society, with a significant administration, capable together of doing difficult things to retake charge of our prospects.

Through maintaining a distinct purpose to rejuvenate our finances, our localities and our nation, we will deliver the change we promised – and then be evaluated based on it during the upcoming vote.
