Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his position following a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the team's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received significant backing from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points naturally but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Response
The manager highlighted known failings from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period of this nature with results like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
