Over 50 unaccompanied young refugees who disappeared shortly after reaching the UK and while being looked after by government agencies are still missing, according to figures obtained.

A significant number of the missing children entered in dinghies or hidden in the rear compartments of vehicles and are thought to have been taken by traffickers. This region is frequently the location where they initially reach.

Government Figures Indicates Alarming Statistics

Freedom of information data has recorded 345 children going missing from the region, with 56 of those still missing.

Between 2021 and 2023, when designated facilities for children operated combined with other sites in other areas, 132 children went missing from those two hotels. Of these, 108 were eventually recovered but 24 are yet to be found.
