Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-part series written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, plot details hinted.
In a statement, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new installment."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful television series of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.
Broadcasters has not yet announced when the new season will premiere.
The finale of season six brought the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no plans for further series.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
