We begin with questions from Conservative MP the panel's head, who chairs the panel.

She commences by offering background to the unauthorized document authored by Michael Prescott and published in a daily publication.

"It is not my wish for the BBC tilting toward one side or the other, I just want it straight, unbiased and fair," he says.

In response to a query whether he thinks the BBC is institutionally biased, the adviser answers: "No, I do not. To be clear, a great deal the British Broadcasting Corporation does is world class - both documentary and fictional content."

But he adds: "There is significant effort that needs to be done at the British Broadcasting Corporation."

The second ex-adviser BBC specialist interviewed by the committee, Caroline Daniel, remarks she regards the BBC extremely earnestly and that it maintains a "persistent practice and vigorous discourse" across dynamic and complex topics.

"Whether the BBC was ready to conduct a genuine conversation and exchange and act accordingly?" she reflects. "From my perspective, affirmative, they were."
