The award-winning broadcaster and filmmaker, Sir Humphrey Burton, has died at 94 years old.
His passing occurred at his home, in the company of his family.

Born in Trowbridge in 1931, he became known as a cherished figure who demystified classical music for millions.
In the mid-20th century, he was the BBC's head of music and arts and was honoured with accolades for landmark programmes like The Golden Ring.
1978 saw him introduce the Young Musician of the Year, a contest instrumental in discovering future stars including violinist Nicola Benedetti.

The news was met with widespread respect, with many citing his formative role for generations of creators.
