Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his team can keep managing with player absences after revealing that star striker Kai Havertz will not return for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

Havertz has been absent for months after undergoing an operation on his knee. Hoped to return at the start of this month, the manager stated the player encountered a problem when advancing his training and was unable to move forward “to the next level.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a squad that is considerably steadier and has greater depth,” stated the manager.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This update creates a selection headache for the midweek home game against Brentford. A decision is required between sticking with Mikel Merino, who found the net as a makeshift striker on Sunday, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly after a fitness issue in the latter stages. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus remains in contention post-recovery.

Defensive Concerns Persist

Further fitness issues involve defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who sat out the weekend encounter. Consequently, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably continue in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.

Arteta believes the £250m spend on new players in the last transfer window has resulted in a much stronger position to deal with such unavailability.

Greater Options Vital for Title Challenge

When asked if a larger pool of players was helping their league challenge, his response was positive. “Absolutely, as this campaign has presented greater challenges in certain positions, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he continued.

“History has shown us that we must deploy players in alternative spots, and they need to be prepared to fulfil different roles if we want to compete at the top. And the case of Mikel Merino.”

Arteta's Support for Frustrated Star

Speaking about the complication noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided more insight. “His recovery was progressing. He failed to advance to the next level and now it’s looking like we have unlocked that.”

He shared his personal desire to have him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. I mean, it’s a player that, in my view, I value highly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his mentality, his attitude. I observe his frustration on the sidelines.”

“His playing record is outstanding, he’s been always available, and I can’t wait to have him back involved on the pitch because I believe it’s going to be a massive boost.”
