Anthony Joshua repeated his controversial remarks about being prepared to “kill” Jake Paul during a news conference in Miami on Wednesday.

These statements were first made on the previous day when the boxer was questioned if he would show restraint against the social media star, responding that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

The upcoming contest against the YouTuber-turned-boxer has attracted criticism over safety concerns and the size difference between the two fighters.

Fury Calls Joshua a “Disgrace”

Former titleholder The Gypsy King called Joshua a “disgrace” for his extreme comments.

But the 36-year-old fighter, justified his position: “This is what I do, we fight. We have a license that permits extreme violence.

“I'm sure many people don't grasp it but this is what my job is. I just enjoy what I do. The outcome, happens - as long as my hand is raised, that's what's important, with all due respect.”

He added, “That's just the mentality we have to have as boxers. I'm unsure if other fighters think that way. Perhaps they're a bit more tame. The way my mind works. When you're in the squared circle, it's a dangerous thing. Anything can happen.”

“You hope your adversary exits the ring unharmed, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed knowing you just did your job. It was purely professional.”

Paul's Fiery Response

Jake Paul, a considerable underdog in the heavyweight contest as a natural lighter fighter, was equally fiery in his retort.

“This is a contemporary gladiator sport,” Paul stated. “I'm prepared. I want his strongest punches. I want there to be zero excuses when it's all over. Let's kill each other.”

Joshua will face his opponent, 28, at Florida's arena in a fight many consider a significant mismatch, with some arguing it should have been approved as an non-professional fight.

The official fight will be fought over 8 three-minute stanzas using regular ten-ounce padded gloves, with a stipulated maximum weight for the former champion.

He Claims He Was “Brought In to Save” The Sport

Despite the vulgar language used, the fighter suggested he has been “brought in to save” the sport of boxing.

“They want me to put an end to the Jake Paul phenomenon and I understand it and that's why I have to bear boxing on my back in this fight,” he concluded.

The news conference also had more humorous moments, with AJ smiling as his rival sang ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ to him.

The final staredown passed peacefully, with Paul adopting a bizarre pose before Joshua stayed composed and playfully touched Paul's chain.

Both Fighters Dismiss Scripted Allegations

The peculiar nature of this fight has led to speculation about its authenticity, including suggestions that Joshua may be prohibited from knocking Paul out.

“There are no clauses in the agreement, Joshua can attest to it. We're going to war,” Paul insisted.

Joshua, wearing a expensive chain, humorously added, “The only thing in the contract that got my attention was the payment.”

Paul has stated on social media that the fight earnings will be exceptionally large.

Paul first made his name as an digital influencer, amassing a massive social media following.

He has never fought anyone of Joshua's pedigree but insisted that his rival would not underestimate him.

“It's smart on his part,” he commented. “This could potentially be, and will be, the biggest defeat of his life.”

A victory for the underdog would be arguably the most shocking upset in the sport's history.

It would certainly leave an indelible mark on his record, but the athlete said it would not mean retirement.

“I'd return again, shake it off,” he said. “I will be headlining again in a year or two. That's life. I'm a competitor in the sport.”
